Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign

See to Shining Sea

This may be a stretch for this challenge, but hear me out.  If you have been following my blog for the last 22 months you would know that I live in the mountains, and am surrounded by rural farmland.  My commute to work is only about 30 minutes and is south down a hiway that descends out if the mountains and into more rural areas.  The pictures from my work area are primarily of more of the same.  So today I took a trip to Baltimore, and as I walked around the harbor, with the clouds thickening by the minute as a result of Hurricane Sandy, I thought of how different everything was, yet I live only 60 miles away.  It’s amazing what a difference a few miles can change.  Just having the opportunity to snap a shot of a tall ship like the USS Constellation, is something that doesn’t happen everyday.  I think of the number of kids I teach, or that are my own children’s friends who have never been to Baltimore and how they would see sites like this. They’d think they were in a different world.  Foreigners in our own state. October 28, 2012

  1. Amazing photo. And very foreign indeed if you live in the mountains.
Thanks for the pingback to my post.
